PEGASUS – BERLIN, SYMPHONY OF A GREAT CITY
Saturday, June 4
On Saturday June 4, at 21:30 pm, a special concert will be held at the Museu de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya (Terrassa). Catalan jazz-fusion band PEGASUS retrieves one of the most acclaimed projects of his career: Berlin, Symphony of a great city. The show includes the projection of the German silent film Berlin, Die Sinfonie der Großstadt, written by Carl Mayer and directed by Walter Ruttmann in 1927, with the original soundtracki in jazz key interpreted in live.
The film portrays a day in the Berlin of the time by a succession of images on everyday life in the city, from dawn until night: jobs citizens, trams and trains, the crowds in the streets, factories, buildings. This documentary, shot in an innovative and modern at the time, became a cult regarding “urban symphonies” films of the years 1920-1930 in the city and progress are the main protagonists.
Fourteen songs, composed of PEGASUS, accompany the 64 minutes of the film, with perfect synchronization between music and images. The rhythms of the themes reflect the different environments showing the film: the quiet of dawn, the frenetic activity of the rush hour, the cosmopolitan night, etc. The magical fusion of PEGASUS tracks with images of Ruttmann shows the universal timelessness of film and music.
The show, which first arrives to Terrassa, has been released in several cities, including Barcelona, Madrid, Palma or Miami (USA).
